Troy Thompson, PE
President, Sr. Water Resource Engineer
Growing up among the lakes and streams of Wisconsin had a profound influence on Troy’s career path. “Water has always had an enchanting allure to me, so pursuing a career focused on rivers and water resources was a natural choice and a great way to combine my passions and technical interests.” Following a BS in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Cornell University Troy moved west to begin his career amid the beauty and recreational opportunities in Colorado. He earned a MS in Civil Engineering from the University of Colorado and worked in the fields of water resource engineering, mining and stream restoration.
The founding of ERC in 2000 provided an opportunity to combine the technical aspects of water resource engineering and environmental sciences with the intent of providing clients highly specialized services. “From inception, ERC’s goal has been to offer services where hard engineering and softer environmental sciences combine and complement each other to design and construct sustainable solutions.”
Troy’s 24-year professional career has spanned the fields of hydrology, hydraulics, geomorphology and stream restoration. His diverse skills and experiences have provided the opportunity to participate in a multitude of creative and innovative projects including design/build restoration of more than 50 stream projects, small and large scale irrigation projects, dam and reservoir projects, stream evaluations and surface water control and management for mining projects around the globe. “The incredible diversity and depth of technical expertise that ERC provides in a small company setting is what really sets us apart.”
When not working, Troy continues to enjoy the natural beauty and recreation that brought him to Colorado and spends as much time as possible on the water. His interests include traveling, flyfishing, hiking, mountain biking, skiing, rafting and hunting and he enjoys sharing those activities and time with his wife, daughter and son.
